This morning, the world was soft with dew, and the sky wore that watercolour hush only spring knows how to paint. I was halfway through wondering if I should put socks on when I heard it—the cheery, flute-like song of someone far more alert than I.

And there he was.

Perched on the garden fence like a note sprung to life from an old music box: a robin. His chest puffed, not from pride, but from purpose. That signature russet red glowed in the early sun, as if he’d caught a bit of the morning and tucked it beneath his wings for safekeeping.
